The project
Every emulsion has its own color rendering capabilities. Although each step in the photographic process influences the final image, this project aims to characterize each film stock through a methodical and consistent approach, reducing external variables to better understand its inherent color behavior.
This research does not attempt to define how a film should look, nor to prescribe a correct color interpretation. Color is always shaped by technical and aesthetic decisions. Instead, the goal is to provide a neutral point of reference to observe how different emulsions respond under the same conditions.
This is an open and ongoing project, intended to evolve over time. Its purpose is to offer information and inspiration to the photographic community, supporting informed creative choices rather than fixed conclusions.
Part 1
The Preset Pack
(for lightroom)
The official preset pack includes simulations of every emulsion featured in “Every 35mm Film Color Science – Part 1”.
Each preset is built from the numerical hue, saturation, and luminance data extracted during the analysis process and later refined manually. While Lightroom’s color tools have inherent limitations, these presets are intended as a creative starting point allowing you to focus on fine adjustments and finishing touches in the Basic panel rather than building a color base from scratch.
The pack is completely free. Simply complete the form to receive the presets by email. This step is only in place to prevent automated bots and mass scraping.
Documentation
The goal is to organise the raw data and the various charts produced during the analysis of each colour film stock, turning them into a clear and practical reference guide.
It is still being considered whether all the information will be presented directly on this page or compiled into a structured PDF covering the analysis in greater depth.
The Poster
It presents a visual summary of the color science analysis featured in the YouTube video “Every 35mm Film Color Science Explained – Part 1”.
It brings together the color vectorscopes of each 35 mm film stock analyzed, allowing for a direct and clear comparison of how different emulsions render color.
All vectorscopes are generated using a consistent and controlled scanning workflow, focusing on color behavior rather than subjective grading. The result is a clean, technical, and visually engaging overview of each film’s chromatic character.
Designed as both a reference tool and a visual piece, this poster is ideal for photographers, film enthusiasts, and creative spaces interested in the science behind color in analog photography.
This poster is an original design created in response to numerous requests in the comments section of the YouTube video.
It is an ideal way to support this project and future content to be released on the Parvec YouTube channel.
